THANK YOU FRIENDS OF THE ISLANDS INITIATIVE

The Friends of the Island Initiative generously donated lifejackets, vhf radios and a first aid kit to the Nevis Aquatic and Sailing Center. We thank this organization for their support to the Center’s Programs and Mission to provide the Nevis Community with a safe environment in which to craft their love of the ocean. Thank you!

James Weekes, a Director of the Nevis Aquatic and Sailing Center, receives a cheque from Manoj Daswani, General Manager, Rams.

The cheque is for funds raised by Ram's Supermarket’ “ Change for Charity” scheme which represents 10 Charities across St Kitts and Nevis. Shoppers in RAMs’ stores are invited to contribute a few dollars more to their chosen charity at the checkout.

Manoj :“ It gives Rams enormous pleasure to help such worthy causes. As the scheme gains publicity, we hope contributions will grow”

James Weekes runs and trains the ‘Bring It’ Nevis Swim Team in partnership with Nevis Aquatic and Sailing Center.

James : “The Center is incredibly grateful to RAMs for setting up this scheme. The generosity of the Nevis Community and Rams, raising $1,000 for NASC in just 3 months, is amazing . NASC guarantees every cent raised under the scheme will go to reducing the cost to local families participating in the Center’s Swim and Sail programs”.

Congratulations to Skyla Connor (11), Abhijith Srinivasan (11) and Greyson Burrell (9) for representing St Kitts and Nevis in the 17th Annual Sint Maarten Sol Optimist Championships! All children competed in the orange fleet with Skyla Connor placing first, Abhijith placing 7th and Greyson placing 8th along with a promising newcomer award. Thanks to Coach Nicholas Dupre, Coach Nickhail Rogers, St Kitts and Nevis Sailing Association and the St Kitts and Nevis National Olympic Committee for making this trip possible.

Congratulations to Justin Williams (12), Austin Williams (11) and Skyla Connor (11) for representing St Kitts and Nevis in the 30th Annual OECS Swimming Championships in Rodney Bay, St Lucia. A first time for SKN to have youths represented at this competition. The children, all a part of Bring It Swim Team based from NASC, did exceptional for their first time competing in a pool! The children competed in 50m free, 100m free and a relay. Thanks to Coach James Weeks, Coach Nedd Lestrade, Coach Yash and the St Kitts and Nevis Swimming Federation for their efforts in making this dream a reality.

A big thank you to World Sailing, Nevis Island Administration’s Department of Health and Gender Affairs to partner with the Nevis Aquatic and Sailing Center to put on this event. Over 50 women came to experience Aqua-aerobics, sailing, kayaking, paddle boards, and swimming.

Summer Sailing and Aquatic Camps

NASC hosted 2 Summer Camps this summer. An 8 day Summer Sail Camp from August 3rd-12th followed by a one week Summer Aquatic Camp from August 15th-19th. The sailors in the Summer Sail Program participated in a comprehensive sailing curriculum that also included a fun sail trip & picnic lunch to Tamarind Cove where they snorkeled CARE SKN’s coral nursery and a fun sail around Booby Island and to Cockelshell Bay for a picnic! The Aquatic camp featured children new to the Program and included a rotation of marine biology/marine conservation classes, swimming lessons, sailing lessons and beach games. The final day included the Robin Trevor’s Memorial Sail Trip aboard a Catamaran. Please take a look at the video to see the children and get their thoughts on the Summer Camp Programs!

“The camp was one I know my 7-year-old son will never forget. He especially loved the sailing and catamaran experiences. As a curious kid, he enjoyed the marine biology sessions as well. It was very organised, with amazing coaches and volunteers, and the small group activities provided a safe environment for the children given the current pandemic. I highly recommend the camp and look forward to the next one”.

NASC facilitated a week long assistant sail instructor training program from October 5th-9th, 2020. The days were filled with intensive sessions aimed to develop a team of assistant sailing instructors for our growing sailing program in the Federation. We thank Nicholas Dupree and the St Kitts Yacht Club for joining us in this as well as the Caribbean Sailing Association for allowing us to utilize their Resort Instructor’s Training Program. Teamwork is what makes the dreamwork. Well done to all of our participants, this program was a huge success and shows the direction the Nevis Aquatic and Sailing Center is going in developing persons in the sport of sailing.
